It gets its name from its distinctive pattern. Two factors influence its color; any change in the water of the pool causes the black color of its body to fade, and its white spots disappear as it ages. When its color fades, its dark-edged scales become visible, forming a net-like pattern on its body. During the breeding season, the males jealously guard the eggs. In some areas, like clownfish, they live in symbiosis with sea anemones.
