Nurse shark

It can be found on continental shelves and islands, but it often rests on shoals, flats, and coral reefs as well. Young specimens may hide among the prop roots of red mangrove trees. A solitary, sluggish fish, divers often encounter it lying on the seafloor. Active at night, it feeds on invertebrates found on the seafloor, including crustaceans (shrimp, fiddler crabs, and lobsters), sea urchins, squid, octopuses, snails, and clams, but its diet also includes smaller bony fish (such as pufferfish, scorpionfish, spiny rays, and various catfish species). Its meat is edible, but it is the skin that is truly valuable, as it is extremely strong and durable. It has a peaceful nature, but can become dangerous if provoked.
